Bible Story Puzzles: How many book names can you find?

How many Bible names can you find in these jumbo-jampacked copyrighted tales? There are over a hundred I sought urgently to hide in this puzzling story. Most names are hidden inside neighboring words, but in spite of boredom, at the worst moments, you might have to read between the lines. Some titles are hidden more than once. Several are hidden inside longer individual words, and a few are hidden backwards. Once in awhile, I used a bibliophile moniker by itself. Arleen and Imogene, sisterly friends, found all 68 Bible titles. Little Lulu kept at it and found a Pentateuch book after "Imo". Alexo, Dustin, and Friar Zelda found a Gospel name nine words later. Dijon Ahab, and Willis A. Mueller, found out I used two names five times each. Jesu tittered with glee and Leo jumped for joy when they saw three book names spelled backward in this paragraph. My friend, Jud, gesticulated wildly and went magnum berserk, giving himself an abnormal, achier headache while rocking slowly in his chair after he found all the names. Judi, three siblings, and their mother, say that if they all had their druthers, they'd do this instead of homework. Jason's elves, there in his back yard, said, ".sdrawcab ni seman koob emos tuP" The Byte Man, webmaster for www.MAZES.com at the world wide web, created this puzzle guaranteed to benumb erstwhile enigmaniac t-shirt wearing puzzle lovers. This tough task required him to scope terabytes of data before hiding all sixty-eight (it used many happy hours) book titles. Benchmarks {bracketed #'s} show you the cumulative quantity of hidden names prior to those places. Back to the story. To help remember Auschwitz, Ephan, IA, held a contest at Kielberg (famous for the "Please Don't Squeeze Kielberg Charmin" commercials) to see who could find the most words. The power failed while Frances, the Rabbi, was seeking Old Testament names, so they used abacuses, drastically slowing down the counting. The band "Gala, Tian, Suzy & Fred" enhanced the decor in thi Anschluss room, which was painted in a shade of brown umber. Silly Manitoba Di, ahead of her peers, won the contest. They took the contest to another city, where they suffered the Acapulco loss. Ian's brother beat them terribly because of a ringer, Brett? He's Sal on Ian's team, sponsored by the musical "Hair". "Ah, Cezanne," Ian cried, "I'm, uh, analyzing the brassard several of you are wearing." Frankly, I think Ian's in a rut. However, my friend, Harvey Lopez, raves about my puzzles, especially while singing "The Cradlesong of Sol O. M. O'Neill", a Czech Aria, happily, while wearing a Navajo's Huarache sandals. He sang the Alcatraz aria hand in hand with three trumpeters during a party at the Taj. "Oh, never again, from now on, I will accompany myself with a Teal Ukelele and sing Carolyn's lovesong oft." He, three young men, and Omar Knoderer decided every Byte Man Perplexing Puzzle was good enough to earn www.MAZES.com, at the worst chances, the Cryptogram Oscar. By consensus, Anna reported that his puzzles would receive the next-highest award. The pastor at Feccles, IA, St. Esau Lutheran Church wrote to a church in Cincinnati, MO, "Thy congregation will love this puzzle." He used to be an oddjobsman with a towbar u' chained another car to. He gave this puzzle to Ron, his old baseball coach, who was flying east to investigate Rhythm & Blue Symphonies. That evening, he got a telegram, "I approve R.B. Symphonies & found 33 words. Telegrams are expensive, so he sent this short telegram back to Coach Ron: "I C Less! Thanks." From the Ecclesia St. ICU, Stephen called, "Lisa, I, ahead of time, put a note in your Bible. Read it." Tat Ions are chromosomally identical to nuclei nadirs, which only affect Xiphisterna Human carpets, especially shag. Gaia, also known as Mother Earth, would say that the best shag is made in Triskadekaphobeland. The dragon supplies the power. Awake, he seems like trouble, but asleep, he's ian's favorite partner. We revel at ion's success in making a better carpet. We held another puzzle contest during the ninth month of the Jewish ecclesiastical calendar, Kislev. It, I customized by adding more contestant names to the puzzle, like Shaba K., Kukla, Fran & Ollie, who were afraid to bite off more than they could chew. My brother David asked if I wanted to ride in his Worldwide Utero? "No, my old car, with mods I worked out, is good enough," I answered. We tried to get to NJ 'ere Mia had a chance, but she got there first, riding two soapsud oxen led by their driver, Potomac Cab'ees. Dave said that his sense of "deja" messed him up. On the boat going to Delphi, Lippi answered more words while sitting in the Brahmana, SSE Hypothermic Bath with Spock in G-suite. How I used these puzzles when I visited Noel Missouri and
Other Ideas for Your Use

The day I finished editing the first puzzle, I took it to a church in a nearby town. After their special service, I stood out in the foyer, showed the puzzle to kids and adults, showed them two of the hidden books, then told them if they could show me one more hidden Bible book, I'd let them keep the puzzle. All but one earned their puzzle. (The one who didn't was four years old). Afterward, several of them complimented me for making them "earn" the puzzle because they thought it meant more to them that way.

A group of sixty kids are taking a tour of the Shiloh Bakery in Sulphur Springs. While half of the group tours the bakery, the other half will be having fun with this puzzle. If your group is close enough to Northwest Arkansas to take a field trip to Sulphur Springs, I'll be glad to visit with your group at Shiloh. (return to top of page)

Why did I write this puzzle?

Part of the reason I wrote this puzzle is because I'm also a volunteer tutor at a literacy council. A few years ago, one of our older adult students loved every word puzzle I gave him, even though he had severe reading difficulties. I guess part of the reason he loved them was because my puzzles didn't depend on a particular reading level. His love of those puzzles encouraged me to write others. One time, I asked him once to tell me which puzzles he liked most. His answer? "John, you've never given me a puzzle I didn't like."

With this puzzle, I set out to create a reading-oriented puzzle that could use long words, but yet, not require a high reading ability in order to have fun with the puzzle. I also wanted to use a subject matter that would be of interest to a wide variety of people, so I used the Bible for my source words. I started with ALL the names of the books of the Bible, then I set out to create a weird story that let me hide all those words. My main distribution channel for this puzzle is the internet. If you want to use this, go right ahead and use it. If you give it to some pastors you know, maybe I'll even make a few pennies. (I can hope, can't I?).

Another reason I wrote this puzzle is because I enjoy creating puzzles that can be used by all denominations. Even though I grew up in the Lutheran Church, and even though I still participate in the ELCA church about 45 minutes from here on occasion, I do believe that all faith systems believe in the same God, so I will be glad to create versions of this puzzle that are based on other books that show God's influence, just like the Bible does. Just get in touch with me and provide some help.

I have spent many weeks on this puzzle. I can't even estimate the large number of hours required to create this puzzle. If you included the many hours I spent typing a dictionary into the computer, it would be well over 500 hours, but that was from years ago for another project that didn't go anywhere. But the time on this phase, searching that dictionary and using other online resources, I still have well over a hundred hours on this puzzle. (return to top of page)

YOUR OPINION IS IMPORTANT

There are three ways that I can produce these puzzles. Which way do you think is best?

At the end of each paragraph, I can tell the solver how many (accumulative) words have been hidden so far in the story, with one number for "regularly hidden" words and a second number for "neddih sdrawkcaB" words.
At the end of each paragraph, I can tell the solver how many accumulative words have been hidden so far in the story, but NOT make a distinction between "forwards" and "sdrawkcab". At the end of the story, I could state how many of each style were hidden.
Lastly, I could just give no hints at all at the ends of the paragraphs, and only give the final count either during the story or at the end of the story.
