We especially enjoy things that help
us think about the "infinite spirit"
that is inside all of us.

Radica's Pocket Solitaire unit (shown here) has a minor difference from the larger units. The highest possible score is 5999. Nothing higher is possible. So, I defined "perfect" as 5999 and kept track of my perfect scores for over a year, getting perfect numbers well over 200 times, including a 71-day period where I got at least one perfect score EVERY DAY. (My August 2000 trip to the UK ended that winning-streak because my hotel bedroom lights did not allow me to play quickly enough to get good scores. Once I got back from that trip, I misplaced the unit.)

Yes, practice does make perfect. It took me a hundred days to get my first perfect score, 13 days to get my second perfect score, and only three days to get my third. The more I played Radica Solitaire, the more often I played perfect games. I got over 200 perfect 5999's between June 1999 and August 2000.

The rest of this page will be boring to most people. Instead, I recommend reading the comparison page, where I give you my opinion about the differences between this pocket unit and the larger unit still pocket size unit I have now.

History of my Pocket Radica Solitaire

1999
I bought the unit and started playing with it on March 10, 1999
101 days later (June 19), I got my first perfect score
17 perfect games in July including a very special July 10 with
three perfect scores in one day
17 perfect scores in August including four perfect scores (and a unique 5998) on the 7th
(think about it ... on this unit, 5998 is a harder score to get than 5999)
(it was because of these scores that August night that I decided to create this web page)
4 perfect scores in September, 8 in October, and 13 in November
{with three perfects almost-in-a-row (
5999-loss-5999-loss-5999) on Nov 14}
and 13 in December, making 73 in all during 1999
2000
My first great score of the new year was a second "unique 5998" on January 3
11 perfect scores in January, 13 in February, 11 in March
(including my first two-perfects-in-a-row on March 1, @ 11:46 and 11:50 pm)
8 perfects in April, 24 in May, and 36 in June
(including three two-in-a-rows on June 11, 21 and 26)
(and a fantastic three-game-sequence of 5999+5999+5918 on May 23)
(5 perfect scores in one day on July 4, a nice way to show my independence?)
Perfect Winning Streak
I changed the battery on June 8 2000, and my perfect-winning-streak started on June 9.
(I've misplaced my records from July 5 to August 18, but I estimate that
my 71-day-streak included between 100 and 150 perfect 5999's)

If you are curious, I played with the game mainly before going to bed or after getting up in the morning. I didn't take it to work and I certainly did not use it for long periods of time except on rare occasions, like once my daily winning streak had started and I hadn't gotten a perfect score yet. (Yes, there were a few times that I delayed bedtime just to get a perfect score for that day.)

I no longer update this page, because I haven't played with the unit in some time. I'm not even sure where it is. (I did rearrange and update this page in December 2004 while getting ready to prepare a new comparison page. Interestingly, I did purchase a newer Radica Solitaire unit on November 15 2004, one that does go higher than 5999 points (my best score so far is 6256 which I got just a very few days after getting the unit) but I don't have plans at the moment to cover my perfect scores winning streak (I now define "perfect" is anything greater than 5999) which either started the day before or two days after the 6256 score depending on whether you allow me to justifiably skip the "day after" in sequence (because I deliberately did not play any games for 48 hours after getting 6256 so that I could photograph it first.))
